Ratings for ‘America’s Next Top Model’ and ‘Stylista’ Sink This Week

Barack Obama’s infomercial Wednesday night might have stolen Tyra Banks’s America’s Next Top Model viewers. About 800,000 fewer people watched this week &#8212 when the girls were in Amsterdam, no less &#8212 than the previous week. A smaller Top Model viewership might have hurt Stylista’s ratings, too. That show’s audience was 30 percent smaller than the season premiere the week before. Either that or the show just, um … yeah. [Entertainment Weekly via Fashionologie]

Video: Zac Posen Semi-Vlogs for Barack Obama

We thought covering oneself with corny election-related buttons was best confined to national conventions. But the look of your average convention-goer might just have become fashionable. Wearing no fewer than ten such pins on his shirt, Zac Posen just posted a vlog-like video of himself urging people to vote and to vote for Barack Obama. He also asks the American people to send pictures of themselves wearing the outfits they plan to wear to the polls on Tuesday to zac@fashionthevote.org, and he’ll post them on fashionthevote.org. Oh to hell with it &#8212 foam-hat store, here we come!

Condé Nast Cans ‘Fashion Rocks’

Condé Nast has decided not to produce Fashion Rocks next year — both the annual supplement to sixteen Condé Nast titles and accompanying variety show at Radio City Music Hall will go “on hiatus for 2009,” Condé Nast president Richard Beckman said in a statement. Beckman cited “toughness in the ad market” as the reason for the cutbacks. We’re sad to see the show go, because that was one killer red carpet: the most recent Fashion Rocks show (back in the halcyon days of September) included Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Lil Wayne, Rihanna, and Mariah Carey. But more important, even though we found the last issue underwhelming and thought it made Justin Timberlake look like a catering waiter, it served an important purpose: Come 2009, how will we remember that fashion and music represent a crossroads in culture from which the great state of “rocking” is born?

The cancellation of Fashion Rocks comes on the heels of major downsizing at Men’s Vogue. Editor Jay Fielden and his assistant were reportedly the only staff retained, according to WWD. Vogue will absorb the title, which has been cut down to two issues a year as a supplement to Vogue. So, this could mean that although Vogue subscribers won’t get Fashion Rocks, they’ll get hottie-filled Mogue in a plastic bag twice a year. Joy!

Anna Wintour’s probably not very happy right now that her titles have been slashed. On the bright side, maybe she can turn the vacated office space into her giant personal powder room.

Know Your ABT

Ugly Betty’s Eric Mabius wasn’t the first person we expected to run into in the audience at the American Ballet Theatre’s fall season Opening Night Gala. Turns out, though, that the actor once took dance classes at Sarah Lawrence. Not that he has any ambitions to join the ranks of the ABT. “I was like a bull in a china shop,” said Mabius. “It was during my ‘challenge myself’ phase.” The gala, which was sponsored for the second year in a row by Nina Ricci and celebrated what would have been the 100th birthday of choreographer Antony Tudor, was a mixed program featuring Tudor’s Romeo and Juliet pas de deux. “It just makes you feel good and it’s a great escape, especially in hard times like we’re having,” said Anne Grauso, sticking close to Ricci designer Olivier Theyskens. Dinner followed at the Pierre hotel, a convenient location for balletomane Tory Burch, who lives upstairs. The evening ended with—what else—dancing. We didn’t spot Mabius cutting a rug, but he had a good excuse: He was accompanying his wife, Ivy Sherman, who is due to give birth on December 11.
