Emma Cook.
Add Emma Cook’s name to the growing Recession Victim List; the London-based designer is folding her eleven-year-old fashion line after this fall. Cook cites a steady drop in orders and revenue as the culprit that brought her down, which is similar reasoning behind this week’s announcements of liquidation at Veronique Branquinho and bankruptcy at Christian Lacroix. And though it’s tough to see the silver lining in this dark turn, we’ll try: Cook’s spring line is still for sale at Opening Ceremony. [Fashion Smashion/Paper, Fashionologie]

Starting today Christian Louboutin and Jimmy Choo boutiques are holding sales. That’s right — no weird online scrambling to get what you want necessary, just good old-fashioned shopping in physical stores. The discount at Louboutin is 40 percent, and markdowns will not go any steeper. The sooner you go, the more likely you are to get what you want. Over at Choo, you can get 30 percent off summer and cruise collection shoes, as well as handbags. So get PUMPed. [Madison Avenue Spy]

BCBG Max Azria was influenced by all things aquatic, with the rhythmic movement of marine tides translated into delicate pleating and draped transparent layers.
Burberry creative director Christopher Bailey was in town last night to light up the Burberry sign on the top of the label’s new U.S. headquarters at 444 Madison Avenue, New York’s old offices. He doesn’t know what happened to the old New York sign that used to stand there, but said he wanted the new sign to have an original point of view. “I wanted it to look like it had been there forever. And I wanted it to work with the New York skyline; I didn’t want it to be too garish, either,” Bailey explained after the official lighting. “We looked at the proportions to make sure it would work with the skyline.”
Bailey was mum on Burberry’s menswear show walking next month. “I couldn’t possibly talk about it right now, but it’s going back to the roots of what Burberry is about,” he said. Ooh, might that mean plaid? Bailey added that the company isn’t scaling back on the show, despite the economy. “But we’re being very thoughtful about the way that we use the funds that we have.” Though the CEO of Versace reportedly wanted to cut back on advertising budgets by, say, not paying Mario Testino’s $140,000 a day fee, Bailey thinks it’s worth it. “You’re buying talent. And I think talent never goes away with the changing economy, and talent is something we all need to keep nurturing.” Also: giant electric logo signs!

“Scuba Pop” is how Rachel Roy describes her lineup of tropical looks inspired by underwater exploration — think neoprene and wet-look liquid jersey.
The lineup was full of sequin T-shirts, abstract animal prints, updated harem pants and embellished leather vests.

Christian Lacroix.
Yesterday we learned that the house of Christian Lacroix had filed for bankruptcy in a Paris court. The company is expected to cut jobs to stay afloat. Lacroix himself is contractually obligated to stay on until next year. Though the CEO said he hoped to stage a scaled-back couture show, a spokesperson for the label said, “Regrettably, I cannot yet confirm if the July show will be going ahead.” Noooooo! In its 22 years in existence, the label has not once turned a profit. Job cuts could leave the couture business difficult to sustain. [Independent UK]

Janice Dickinson was a guest judge on Finland’s Next Top Model last week. She downs a glass of wine at dinner in seconds, then terrorizes the girls after falling down the stairs. Lying on the floor with the girls standing over her, she yells, “Do something, you stupid models! Call a fucking ambulance! You’re so stupid! Call a fucking ambulance!” The ambulance arrives, Janice insists on going to the hospital even though she has no visible injuries, demands special treatment because she is a “sex symbol,” is denied special treatment, and returns to the girls. She tells them she had some Champagne before she met them and took some “sleeping aids” which she mistook for vitamin C tablets. Jezebel has a clip. Janice has our hearts. [Jezebel]

Accessories designer Carlos Falchi will create a line of handbags for Target. It’s a surprising collaboration, since Falchi’s work embodies all that is fabulous in a handbag — python, crocodile … if it’s expensive and you can make a purse out of it, Falchi has probably done it. For example, a 14-inch-by-9-inch Falchi python hobo bag goes for $2,790 at Saks. A 13-inch-by-7-inch python clutch costs $875 at Saks. His glazed-crocodile Doctor bag goes for $4,995 at Neiman Marcus. But his bags for Target will be made of faux snakeskin and will come in jewel tones like plum and teal with contrasting shades of brown, black, and gray, according to WWD. Faux snakeskin isn’t our favorite material, but Falchi may as well do a Target collection. How many ladies in Dallas are really spending $2,675 on pink-crocodile fringed hobos these days? The line will be available from October 11 to December 27.
