Ranya Mordanova at Givenchy.
With a distinct bowl cut and Über-trendy bleached eyebrows, newcomer Ranya Mordanova is having quite the year. After a lukewarm debut at fall 2009 New York Fashion Week, she skipped London and Milan only to reemerge at the Givenchy and Louis Vuitton shows in Paris. Her Givenchy runway stint prompted designer Riccardo Tisci to book her for the label’s fall ad campaign alongside Mariacarla Boscono and Adriana Lima. Since then, the Russian model has been racking up editorial bookings: She appeared in the June issue of W, lensed by Craig McDean, and will appear in next month’s French Vogue, shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. She almost makes us want to take a bowl to our head and bring back our elementary-school cut. Or bleach our eyebrows. Whatever it takes to be the trendiest.

Last night, The September Issue director R. J. Cutler gave a talk at the Apple Store. The focus was presumably Apple’s fancy film-editing software and other techie things, but he couldn’t resist gossiping a bit about his amazing, one-of-a-kind Vogue experience. According to the Shophound, he had so much footage and the editing process was so complicated that he left André Leon Talley out of the first cut. Obviously, this was an egregious error, since André is one of the most entertaining editors on staff and his “famine of beauty” line has become a catchphrase well in advance of the movie’s release. Vogue super-fans can even download that phrase as a ringtone on The September Issue’s Facebook page. [Shophound]

Women’s motorcycle vest.
In 1979, Mirage debuted a line of men’s leather jackets that were modeled after military looks from the early part of the twentieth century. The label proved extremely popular throughout the eighties, with retail space at all the big department stores and stars like Bruce Springsteen, Robert Mapplethorpe, and Sylvester Stallone as fans. Now, after a twelve-year hiatus, Mirage is back for fall 2009 with leather outerwear for both men and women. The styles — such as belted motorcycle jackets and down-filled bombers — will be sold at Steven Alan in Tribeca and on Bloomingdales.com, with prices ranging from $350 to $1,000. The classic shapes have a slim, tailored fit and the buttery leather is softened using unique washing techniques. If the fall runway shows are any indication, leather bombers will be everywhere this season, making these chic, well-made jackets a smart investment. Preview eight styles from the line in our slideshow.
The fall collection will be available at Steven Alan, 87 Franklin St., nr. Church St. (212-219-3305) starting August 3, and on Bloomingdales.com later in the month.

Summer in the city always bumps up the grime factor. Sweaty handshakes and sticky subway poles are just a couple of the indignities New Yorkers have to suffer through on a daily basis. However, Fruits & Passion has a purifying waterless hand soap (read: hand sanitizer), so we can rub off the grime. It’s small enough to fit in a handbag, quick-drying, not tacky, and won’t dry out hands. Plus, the cheery tubes come in yummy scents like Field Berries, Georgia Peach, Pear Peony, Grapefruit Guava, and Orange Cantaloupe. Even if fruity smells aren’t your thing (the scents are very subtle), it beats the rubbing-alcohol smell of most.
$6.50 at Fruits-Passion.com.
