Slideshow: New York Designers at (capsule) Paris
The invite-only, menswear-themed (capsule) trade show in Paris wrapped up this week. The fashion and lifestyle event, which takes place in four different international cities throughout the course of the year, brings together big-deal contemporary labels, indie designers, artists, and more for a sort of buying-fantasia-slash-cool-kid meet ‘n’ greet. The emphasis is on streetwear both high and low; this year’s list of participants included Creative Recreation, F-Troupe, Dr. Marten, Commonwealth Utilities, Naked & Famous, Nom de Guerre, Pendleton Woolen Mills, and Red by Wolves, among many others. New York repped it hard, though: Click ahead to see some behind-the-scenes pics of Mark McNairy, Jeff Staple, Timo Weiland and Alan Eckstein, and others from the trade-show floor.

Dreadlocked Skateboarder Wears Guatemalan Friendship Bracelets With Zara
In this week’s Video Look Book, our camera crew stopped dreadlocked skateboarder/film student Axuan Vrolijk. Born in Guatemala, Vrolijk considers himself a pupil of the world and describes his personal style as “international.” That means a belt-cum-bandanna from Bali, a bracelet from a Buddhist monk who lives in a cave in Thailand, and pants from Zara. (Hey, it’s a Spanish chain!) Watch the video to see Vrolijk walk us through his outfit, and bust some skateboarding moves in Union Square.

Elle Macpherson Wears PVC Pants and Fetish Pumps
Vogue may have called bondage chic passé, but Elle Macpherson wore a pair of skinny PVC pants and pointy Christian Louboutin fetish pumps at a Britain’s Next Top Model press event in London today.
What do you think of the shiny pants?

Cathy Horyn Calls the Spring 2011 Men’s Shows Wimpy
Yves St. Laurent.
Fashion critics seemed to have had a ball calling out the silly in the spring 2011 men’s shows, but in reflecting on all of it, Times critic Cathy Horyn is disappointed. All those ridiculous looks we compiled yesterday? She calls them wimpy.
But men are having a hard time, as Hanna Rosin observed in an article in the current issue of The Atlantic, its tag line, “How women are taking control — of everything.” Men are wimping out, in the example of Judd Apatow’s chronic adolescent characters, or being mowed down by Beyoncé and Lady Gaga.
You sensed a little of this problem at the shows, and it was not a pretty sight. Stefano Pilati, the Saint Laurent designer, reverted to a drowsy Paul Bowles sexuality, with delicate young men in even more delicate-looking knits and high-waist shorts that rippled over skinny legs. If you saw a guy with a little fez tipped over his brow, what would you think? How fast can he set up my chair by the pool?
And she’s right — man lace is wimpy even if it’s Givenchy. As are skinny-boy models in short, wind-catching shorts. Maybe in another season or two the men’s collections will embrace the minimalist aesthetic that drove everyone wild at the fall 2010 women’s shows. Who doesn’t love a guy in just a nice well-cut suit?

Cynthia Rowley Designed Some Diapers
Well, here’s one way to get that coveted Target collaboration: Pampers by Cynthia Rowley (yes, diapers) will be available in Target stores starting in mid-July, in pastel patterns like madras, stripes, and printed ruffles. “It’s the first piece of clothing your baby will ever wear, and it should be special,” Rowley explains. Some might see the diaper as more of a pee pad than an article of clothing, but okay. [Luxist]

Pretty Up Your Hands and Feet With 110 Nail-Polish Picks
From left: China Glaze Nail Lacquer in Flyin’ High, Orly Nail Lacquer in Rage, MAC Nail Lacquer in Scorcher, Dolce & Gabbana Intense Nail Lacquer in Perfection, and OPI Nail Color in Jade Is the New Black.
Open-toe shoes are a must on hot summer days; fortunately, the right shade of electric blue or mint green on toes can really make an outfit pop. The latest Shop-A-Matic rounds up 110 of our favorite nail polishes, including bold corals and shimmery metallics. We sampled each one so you can see how the colors change from bottle to hand, and also asked Michelle Mismas, the nail expert behind All Lacquered Up, to chime in with her current obsessions. Click ahead to see which polishes made the cut.
China Glaze Nail Lacquer in Flyin’ High
Price: $7
Why All Lacquered Up Likes It: Turquoise is the “It” color of the year. Of all the ones that have come out for summer, Flyin’ High packs the most punch. It’s glossy perfection.
Orly Nail Lacquer in Rage
Price: $8
Why All Lacquered Up Likes It: Nothing highlights a faux-glow better than a blinged-out metallic nail. Orly hit the jackpot when they created this foil-finish rose gold, which flatters a wide range of skin tones.
MAC Nail Lacquer in Scorcher
Price: $11
Why We Like It: Nothing sets off (safely!) tanned skin quite like a bright coral shade, especially when paired with a floaty white frock.
Dolce & Gabbana Intense Nail Lacquer in Perfection
Price: $20
Why We Like It: A classic nude can be tricky to pull off since most hues tend to wash out the skin. Dolce & Gabbana’s version has just enough warmth to flatter and is subtle enough for even the most conservative workplace.
OPI Nail Color in Jade Is the New Black
Price: $9
Why All Lacquered Up Likes It: As a lover of all things green, this color hits my nail-fanatic sweet spot, but on top of that, green is having a moment. OPI artistic director Suzi Weiss-Fischmann nailed it with this color. Jade is the new black.

Calvin Klein to Remake Cher’s Slinky Clueless Dress
You know, the one she wears when she goes out with Christian, and she comes down the stairs looking slutty, and her father says, “What are you wearing?” And she says, “A dress.” And he says, “Says who?” And she answers, “Calvin Klein.” Anyway, the owner of L.A. Boutique Confederacy asked Calvin Klein director Francisco Costa to re-create the dress for her store, and he did. Buy yours online tomorrow in white or red for the bargain-basement price of $915. Isabel and Ruben Toledo Designed Beachwear for Manhattan’s First Target
The Toledos.
Manhattan’s first Target will open on 116th Street in East Harlem on July 26, and the store is doing everything it can to get the neighborhood to accept it and get people to shop there. The opening party on July 21 will include a replica of the Apollo Theater’s stage, which rapper Doug E. Fresh will grace for a performance. Though it remains unclear what the socialite portion of the guest list looks like, chef Marcus Samuelsson will cater the event! He also made some nifty banana and vegetable pot holders to sell in the store as part of its special apparel and accessories collection featuring the work of local designers. The special line also includes beachwear by Isabel and Ruben Toledo, even though Ruben only visited Target for the first time two years ago in Fort Lauderdale.
