Theory’s Insider Looks Now Include Videos

Labels usually employ stylists for their look books — this is not news. But for spring and fall 2010, Theory pulled in seventeen different people to put outfits together for its Insider Looks, including Annabel Tollman, Dani Stahl, Leslie Fremar, Kate Young, and many more. The spring looks all debuted a couple of weeks ago in February, but what we’re getting excited about are the videos that recently debuted on the site. While some just show the stylists talking about what they love, a few offer up tips that are actually useful. According to Tollman’s video, you can wear more than one piece of denim at a time and belting a jacket is a good way to update it. Istvan Francer, who designed the women’s line for Theory, waxes poetic about his love of suits and how to wear one properly (never button the third button). And Susan Joy shows how to wear menswear basics like the boyfriend blazer and an oxford shirt.

The Fashion Blogger Who Has to Dress Up

Ryo Miyamoto is a fashion blogger, and as such, feels it’s imperative that he look the part. “I have to look a little bit nice because If I don’t look good, people will say, ‘Oh, what the heck is this guy?’” He has a point. Ryo does admit that he errs on the cheap side and most of his clothes are vintage or from the street. (Apparently, Japanese street is far, far chicer than ours, going by his outfit.) Check out the video to see more on his style.

Lady Gaga Laces Up

Her Gaga-ness wore what looks like an all-lace jumpsuit with shorts underneath while in London today. The temperature was in the forties there.

Would you ignore the weather to make a splash with your outfit?

Agyness Deyn and Jessica Stam Become Designers

Looks from Agyness Deyn’s line.

Today we have not one, but two models trying their hands at designing. Now, before anyone starts making unfair comparisons to she who should not be named (cough, cough, Lindsay Lohan), the ladies are doing special one-off collections that are probably going to go for a ton on eBay. Agyness Deyn and Barneys Japan are teaming up for a special collection of eleven items, ranging from scarves, tees, leggings, and dresses, retailing for about $212 to $307, American dollars. The line will hit the Shinjuku location in Tokyo on March 13, so anyone heading that way, feel free to send us dispatches/clothes (we’re only half-kidding here).

Our second model stepping up to the design board is Stammy! Jessica Stam signed up with Rachel Rachel Roy to do a capsule collection consisting of jeans, a bag, and a cardigan, which will be unveiled during the next Fashion Week. The line will be promoted, according to WWD, via social media with Twitter and Facebook updates — which gives us even more reason to obsessively check our Facebook during the day.

Do Not Give Tyra Olestra

From former Tyra publicist Jon Paul Buchmeyer’s new memoir, Alphabet City: “Chips with the fat substitute Olestra cause Tyra to have intestinal distress.” And this gem: “Anyone that showed up at a book signing offering a stuffed animal probably needs a security escort.” [Page Six/NYP]

André and Whoopi’s Magic Night Out

My buddy and me!

If you, like us, were wondering what was up with André Leon Talley and Whoopi Goldberg hanging out together during Fashion Week, the New York Times has your answer: They’re buddies. They met at Whoopi’s birthday party, spent Christmas together, and now talk about such things as using wolf urine to get deer away from their houses. (Incidentally, did we know that ALT lived in White Plains? “I reconcile the toxicity of the fashion world with the beauty of home,” he said to the Times.) The paper of record followed the dynamic duo out for a night as they hit up R&B club Sugar Bar for open-mike night. We’re helpfully informed that they like to go there regularly on Thursdays, not that you should stalk them or anything. And after, they went to Monkey Bar (are you keeping notes on the itinerary?), where ALT laments the lack of clapping at fashion shows: “We don’t clap because then you are showing vulnerability,” he said. We haven’t noticed a lack of clapping, though there is always that awkward moment of when the clapping has gone on too long. But we digress — who wants to go to Sugar Bar after Paris shows end?

Boy George Stars As the Mad Hatter

Karma chameleon Boy George strolled around London incognito in a neon-pink chapeau with a magazine covering his face (which was done up properly, of course).

Do you like the bright hue for the hat or do you prefer a more neutral tone?

Simon Doonan on the Front-Row Bloggers

“I loved Thom Browne, especially the groovy new eyewear, but the shows this season were full of teen/tween bloggers. I feel like they are trying to nudge me out of my front-row seat. Luckily, I have a plan for next season. Since they are all about my height, I am going to impersonate one of them. I am going to wear a doily on my head (Tavi!) and tell everyone I am a teen blogger. If they ask why I am so wrinkled, I will tell them that I have progeria.” [GQ]

Lorenzo Martone Photoblogs Fashion Week

Oh, what good could come from such a snowy, cold day? We’re glad you asked! The kids at Refinery29 have somehow managed to get Mr. Marc Jacobs — Lorenzo Martone — to photoblog his fashion week. The snaps include shots of models at the Ruffian party, getting up close and personal with fur at Elise Øverland, a rather cute pic of Rachel Zoe laughing, and male models. Check out all his photos and more. [Refinery29]
