The Art Director Who Calls Drapey Blouses and Dangly Necklaces ‘Casual Menswear’

Art director Chenta Yu isn’t afraid of a little androgyny. “I would describe my look as dandy. Definitely playing a little on the feminine side, but more like menswear.” When we caught up with Chenta, he was wearing a necklace and blouse from Assembly New York with tailored Zara pants and Acne gladiator sandals. Chenta counts Dries Van Noten and Helmut Lang among his favorite designers, but he wasn’t always so style-savvy. “I remember back in the day I wore straight-up T-shirts and jeans,” he admitted. “Now I’ve gotten in touch with so many brands around here. And the vintage, that was hugely inspiring as well for me.” See more of Chenta in our Video Look Book.

The Website Designer With Loads of Alexander Wang and Bright-Orange Patent-Leather Sandals

Website designer Jen Lu takes her style cues from Japanese pop artists. “I’m very much influenced by Takashi Murakami,” she explains in this week’s Video Look Book. The day we caught up with Jen, she wore patent-leather Marni sandals and jeans from Urban Outfitters with a tank, vest, and bag by Alexander Wang. “I wear a lot of black and gray,” she explained. “It’s usually the shoes and accessories that are bright orange or something that pops.” See more in the video.

The Sales Manager Who Counts Her Tattoos As Accessories

Sales manager Danae Dade describes her style as “laid-back and very simple.” When our Video Look Book cameras caught up with her today, she wore a yellow American Apparel tank top, a printed H&M skirt, and Dolce Vita shoes — a budget-friendly spring look she calls her “awesome hundred-dollar outfit.” Dade also shows us her eight tattoos, which she says are part of her “daily accessories.” Check them out in the video.

Video: The Stylist Who Is Motivated by Comfort

Stylist Luis Rodriguez believes that basics are the foundation of style. “You’ve got to master the basics, and from there, you can experiment.” For Luis, experimenting means walking around New York in bright-red Pierre Hardy boots. “I like to mix trends, modern, classic, old, new, high, low,” he explains. “It’s probably the most fun and most visually interesting way to decorate anything.” While he says his style is “eclectic across the board,” he also admits that “I’ve reached a point where comfort is also a motivator in how I dress.” Watch the video to see more of Luis’s style.

Video: The L’Uomo Vogue Assistant Who Took Three Years to Perfect His Mustache

Fashion was once just a hobby for Ori Oren, a recent Israeli émigré, but now he’s working as an assistant for Robert Rabensteiner at L’Uomo Vogue. “When I open my clothing closet, I’m basically trying to tell a story.” What most inspires him about New York is that the story can change day to day. “You can wake up one morning and decide that you’re French and be a French person for 24 hours.” But looking this way takes time. Oren’s mustache alone took nearly three years to cultivate. “You get stuff stuck in it sometimes. Very uncomfortable.” Watch the Video Look Book to see the ’stache in action.

The Amazing Technicolor Makeup Artist

At first glance you would think makeup artist Sierra Luella is heavily influenced by the eighties. Not so! “I don’t know too much about the eighties. I wasn’t born till the nineties.” The rainbow polo, the jean jacket, the neon Lego pin, and the poofy, sponge-curled hair are a look of her own creation. The St. Louis native came to New York because she was tired of being stared at, so it’s no surprise that she assimilates well into the city. “I’m here, I’m comfortable. I’m lovin’ it.” So spunky! Watch the Video Look Book to see her favorite Goodwill purchase.

Video Look Book: The Stylist Rocking a Situation

In this latest installment of the Fashion Week edition of the Video Look Book, we’ve got stylist Matthew Anderson. He’s a self-described chameleon, and when we caught him at the Tents, he was sporting a “mock-preppy vintage sort of situation.” Given his vintage fur hat, vintage coat, and vintage bag — worn with some Reiss jeans and Zara shoes — we’d agree with his “situation.” Click to watch him explain his mid-century influences, as well as his Flava Flav factor.
