Though the idea of colored or patterned tights is certainly a cute one, they’re not for everyone. These rayon striped leggings from Los Angeles–based label Otis & Maclain stand out from standard solid-black styles, but they’re still versatile enough to be worn in a multitude of ways. They’re more matte than shiny, giving them a luxe look (and feel) that trumps cheap fast-fashion versions. Pair them with a chunky sweater and ankle boots for an easy weekend look or don them under a dress for the office.
Otis & Maclain Striped Leggings, $84 at Poppy or online.

Though it may be gift-giving season, it’s hard not to indulge in the flurry of sales happening right now. You can get a lot of wear for your money from Helmut Lang’s jersey twist top, on sale at Barneys right now. With its gathered back and asymmetrical hem, the top offers a chic alternative to a cocktail dress when paired with leather leggings and heels; it could also lend a more professional look worn under a blazer. The easy staple would make for a good gift, too, should you have enough willpower not to shop for yourself.
Helmut Lang Twist Top, $109 (originally $175) at Barneys or online.

Known for her high-end anti-aging skincare line, Sunday Riley is expanding into makeup. Her debut collection hits Barneys tomorrow, including the standout Effortless Breathable Tinted Primer — one of those multifunctional, skin-soothing products that saves space in your makeup bag. The primer is oil- and paraben-free, so it won’t cause breakouts, and ingredients like oxygenating Rejuvenox and moisturizing glycerin provide a healthy glow and plumping effect. The subtle tint covers minor imperfections and brightens skin to make you look more awake, great for weekend afternoons when you don’t want to go barefaced or wear heavy makeup.
Sunday Riley Effortless Breathable Tinted Primer, $48 at Barneys.

Brooklyn-based designers Jill Martinelli and Sabine Le Guyader of jewelry label Lady Grey turn out pieces with an industrial aesthetic that straddle the line between polished and tough. Made of plated gunmetal, these Arrow Earrings are sculptural and slightly iridescent. They give an interesting Chelsea gallery girl–inspired twist to a buttoned-up office ensemble, but would work with just as well with a basic T-shirt and jeans.
Lady Grey Arrow Earrings, $170 at Life: Curated or online.

We’re approaching that time of year when one’s calendar starts to fill up with after-work holiday soirees. There is an Art Deco quality to this Starburst beaded tank from Foley + Corinna; it has enough sparkle to make it evening-appropriate, but the beaded embroidery is more subtle than over-the-top. The top would be suitable for most office-related events if paired with a blazer, while the sheer back makes for an edgier look when worn on its own.
Foley + Corinna Starburst Beaded Tank, $168 (originally $240) at Foley + Corinna or online.

While piling on pendant necklaces is an easy way to update a basic T-shirt, the all-too-common skull and owl options are beginning to look tired. Strung on a brass chain, this vintage-inspired ivory hand pendant is decidedly unique. It’s interesting enough to be worn on its own, or you can layer it with your go-to favorites for a dose of something new.
Vintage Ivory Hand Necklace, $118 at Catbird or online.

Since we’re always on the hunt for pieces that can be worn year-round, the versatility of this mesh maxi-shirt from Australian label Something Else was a major draw. The cotton shirtdress can be thrown over tights and booties for the current climate, or worn on its own — even as a swimsuit cover-up — come summer. The removable rope belt defines the waist (and provides the option to throw in your own belt), and the charcoal-blue color is a welcome alternative to basic black.
Something Else by Natalie Wood Mesh Maxi Shirt, $150 at Dear Fieldbinder or online.

With fall weather maintaining a moderate 50 to 60 degrees, now is the time to don stylish hats that aren’t all about warding off windburn. This wool violet hat from Diane Von Furstenberg plays into the twenties trend that was all over the spring 2012 runways while offering an alternative to fedoras and wide-brimmed hats. Discreet gold hardware adds a subtle dose of glamour without being distracting. It’s also available in a cognac brown, though the burgundy is especially fall-appropriate.
Diane Von Furstenberg Violet Hat, $122.50 (originally $175) at DVF or online.
