See the Top Beauty Trends From the London, Milan, and Paris Runways

While beauty on the New York runways stood out for its range of clean faces and bold eye makeup, the looks in London, Milan, and Paris focused on defining beauty. After seasons full of bleached brows on the runway, bold, strong brows were the center of attention. Makeup artist Pat McGrath dyed arches in pastels at Balenciaga, and she layered on eye shadow for definitive shape at Valentino. Hair took on new heights, and practically stood up by itself, as seen with Karl Lagerfeld’s beehives by Odile Gilbert and Guido Palau’s giant chignons at Prada. And if it wasn’t tall, it was slicked back in severe, dramatic ways. Jil Sander and Thierry Mugler both tried stiff ponytails, while Issey Miyake and Max Mara shellacked the side part. Makeup artists didn’t just exaggerate eyes with a stroke of shadow this season, either. Jean Paul Gaultier painted stripes of liner on eyes for a Nordic look, and Chanel’s Peter Philips dabbed black cream for an inky, paint-inspired eye. Make sure to pick your favorite red this fall, too, as sexy, glossy red pouts reminiscent of Robert Palmer’s “Addicted to Love” video showed up at Dolce & Gabbana, Dsquared2, and Givenchy, among others. And, as a notable mention, the Gareth Pugh show featured the most interesting manicures of the season. See all the looks in the slideshow.

Bold Beauty Looks From the New York Runways

Carolina Herrera.

Beauty this season showcased new ways to do your lips, eyes, and hair, from heavily done-up to undone. Donna Karan’s makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury painted lips cherry red. Tom Pecheux topped pouts with sparkles at Doo.Ri, and Makky of M.A.C. Cosmetics created a two-tone lip at Nanette Lepore. As for eyes, when they weren’t completely plain, they were dramatic: Diane Von Furstenberg’s peepers featured green, gold, purple, and navy hues, while Carolina Herrera created a purple, shimmery, smoky eye. Both Devi Kroell and Jeremy Scott played with geometric lines for their eye makeup as well. And hair was unkempt at Proenza Schouler, perfectly knotted at Badgley Mischka, and braided in a fishtail at Adam.
